View Hip Joint Bones And Muscles Pics. Gluteus maximus is a large muscle of the hip that arises from the posterior gluteal line of the inner upper ilium, and the rough portion of bone including the muscles and ligaments work in a reciprocal fashion at the hip joint. Abduction of the hip joint is limited by tightness in the adductor muscles and the pubofemoral ligaments.
The hip bone (os coxae, innominate bone, pelvic bone or coxal bone) is a large irregular bone, constricted in the center and expanded above and below.
Convex head of femur articulates with concave acetabulum. When the femur moves at the hip joint, there is a coupled action of movement of the pelvis (at the sacroiliac and lumbosacral joints). Overall the hip joint is a very 'hardy' joint and capable of withstanding considerable amounts of strain and ongoing wear and tear. Pain that is more superficial is more likely to be associated with the muscles and tendons while deeper lying pain is usually due to the bone pain or joint pain.
